Nationalist Congress Party----The Leader Sharadchandra Govindrao Pawar(born December 12, 1940)is a maratha strongman and president of the Party which he formed in 1999 in India; and he leads its delegation in the Lok Sabha, representing his home town of Baramati and is also the agriculture minister in the cabinet.

NCP was formed on May 25, 1999, by Sharad Pawar, P.A. Sangma, and Tariq Anwar after they were expelled from the Indian National Congress (INC) following their differences over a person of foreign origin becoming the Prime Minister of India. P.A. Sangma, however, later quit the NCP over differences with Sharad Pawar on NCP's closing in with the INC.
Tariq Anwar (born January 16, 1951 is the general secretary of the Nationalist Congress Party of India.
Since 2004 NCP is a member of the United Progressive Alliance, which governs the country. The party is also a coalition partner in the state of Maharashtra in alliance with INC. 2004 (MMIV) was a leap year starting on Thursday of the Gregorian calendar.
United Progressive Alliance (UPA) is the present ruling coalition of political parties in India.
Maharashtra is India's third largest state in terms of area and second largest in terms of population after Uttar Pradesh.
Sangma quit the NCP because he felt Sharad Pawar was getting closer to the INC in spite of no change in its leadership.
For a brief period Sangma's fraction tried to claim the right to the name and symbol of NCP. The Election Commission acknowledged Pawar's group as the genuine NCP. Following the decision of the Election Commission, Sangma's group merged with AITC to form the Nationalist Trinamool Congress.
